Eye Shadow, Eye liner and Lipstick

For this look i started of by applying translucent loose powder on the eyelids and a thick layer underneath the eye to prevent the eye shadow smudging under the eye.
I then applied a light pastel grey eye shadow and applied a dark brown starting from the the opposite side and blending the two colours together to create a faded effect
For the eyeliner wing i used masking tape and stuck it directly where i would like the wing to be placed so from were the eyelashes end is were i placed my tape.
Mixing water and black eye shadow together i drew a line directly above the masking tape using it as a stencil.

I went on to apply lipstick i started by applying the first layer of lipstick then adding loose powder which makes the lipstick stay in place i then applied another layer of lipstick on top of the loose powder

Beauty Contouring

For this beauty contouring i started  by applying base foundation to the face i then made the model suck in her face to reveal her cheekbones.

I used a dark brown camouflage colour and blended directly under the cheekbones and slightly on the corners of her forehead i then used a dark pink to apply on her cheekbones and blended in to the skin

i like this look because its minimal but i think i could have worked more with defining the contour lines because you can barley see it.
what i think went well with this makeup was the the colour on the cheeks it really works well with her skin tone.

Iconic Photo's

This Black and white Photograph of bob Marley was taken by Dennis Moore this was the first image Dennis Moore took of bob Marley in 1974 ahead of his first uk tour which Dennis joined him on the road for.
What i think makes this image iconic for me is that its a raw photo its not staged its taken in the moment of excitement ahead of his first uk tour  the photo in itself had a sense of excitement and is almost ironic because after this photo was taken he went on to be one of the most successful artist in the world and this photo is literally at the beginning of his journey

"When you're looking at it, he's just turning towards the seat I'm sitting in, He just turned around and said, 'You ready, Dennis?'

This photo was the last photo Dennis Moore took of bob Marley late 1980 before he died
At this very moment on his guitar he started singing "redemption song" which had never been heard before
This photo does evoke a lot of emotion because the story behind it being that he was unknowingly singing and writing one of his most powerful songs

Dennis Moore captures real emotion in his photographs weather happy or sad because there taken in the moment.

Base Foundation

For this base foundation i started by cleansing and moisturising her face i then began mixing and testing the right colour foundation for the face using a wooden spectacular i dabbed it on the end of the chin to see if the colour was a match i then added matt primer to the foundation then used my foundation brush to apply to half the face. I did not just sweep the foundation across the face but used circular motion to make sure the skin would absorb the foundation so it would blend in nicely

In my opinion you can really see the difference between the left and the right side one side is much more flawless and sleek but not heavy.

Elizabethan Films

flora Robson played Elizabeth during the time of the Spanish armada the movie was directed by William k Howard in 1937 the makeup in this photo you can see slight contouring just below the cheek bones and in the corners of the forehead which gives her face a sense of elegance but also gives her a stern look.

Queen Elizabeth was played by Bette Davis in 1939 in the movie "The private lives of Elizabeth and Essex" directed Michael Curtiz.  Perc Westmore creates the make up for this movie the pale white face and also the subtle red lips creating the bags under her eyes suggest she played a more mature aged Elizabeth. Perc Westmore tried to create realistic makeup that would resemble queen Elizabeth

Queen Elizabeth was played by Glenda jackson in a 6 part series on bbc in 1971 the series showed elizabeth over the years sandra shepard applied this makeup look for seasons 1-5 you can see in the first season her face is not pale white but has a slight bronze look to it

But as the season go on and she is portrayed to be aging her face becomes more pale and her lips and cheeks more red

In the last season Dawn Alcock does the make up you can see her skin looks very pale but also immensely damaged which in Elizabethan times would have been the case because of the make up they would use to make there face so pale. white lead would damage the skin which is shown in this makeup this was done by applying a prosthetic mask and the makeup on top of the mask.

Elizabethan Beauty

This specific painting was done by Robert Peake in 1612 named "Lady Anne Pope"
This image i chose i found most relevant to my new project because you can really see the subtle use of makeup or what is made to look subtle, The use of dark colors in the in the setting of the painting really highlights her pale face.  Elizabethan women would use something called ceruse which is white lead mixed with vinegar which was also highly poisonous because of the lead but would achieve that ghost white look Elizabethan women loved.
kohl was used in the more richer households used as a type of mascara to darken the eyelashes and highlight the eyes.
Mercuric sulfide was used for red lipstick and blusher
This painting was inspiring to me because it really helps in showing me what makeup was used and also what colours was used
Elizabethan makeup was made to look simple yet very effective

Me and The New Elizabethans

My name is Rachel Rock i am 19 years old and from London, I come from an art background studying art and design in college but i have always been fascinated by make up and its effects i taught myself how to do basic prosthetics and simple everyday makeup
I am really looking forward to this new project the new Elizabethans because you get to modernise such and iconic time in history
I don't know that much about the Elizabethan era so i am looking forward to learning more and also picking up on new makeup techniques along the way

My fears for this project would be that my makeup would look un realistic like something out of a children's Christmas  theater play hopefully no one will be shouting out "Its behind you" for my makeup

Summer Project (short film Review)

The Great Gatsby

The Great Gatsby falls under the genre of both romance and drama.

The film is iconic mostly because the novel was iconic in its own right but also because the infamous era it was based on, The 20's was remembered for its fashion make up and hairstyles.
This film imitates society at the time in the 1920's, you can automatically recognize the era this movie is based on because of the foux bob hairstyles and the flapper girl outfits.

The lead hair designer in this movie was Kerry warn.
The lead makeup was done by maurizio silvi and the costume designer Catherine martine used existing Prada outfits
